Maib boasts the largest network of automated service points in Moldova, with more 200 located terminals across the country. These are spread across Maib branches open 24/7, retail stores, shopping centers, PECO stations, and more, ensuring uninterrupted access. Trust in handling your treasury bill efficiently, completely queue-free, whenever it's most convenient for you.
My Role
Concept implementation
My key role in this project was revising the initial visual concept and transforming it into a complete UX flow—an unconventional but valuable challenge.
Usability testing
An important aspect of the project was conducting user testing, particularly on TSS terminals, as their unique placement significantly impacted the final design.
Optimisation
During the design development process, we uncovered critical technical aspects of the terminals and their hardware components. Significant design changes optimized dev costs.
Workflow
Old Interface Research
We conducted an in-depth analysis of the existing interface to identify pain points and areas for improvement. This research served as the foundation for redesigning a more user-friendly and efficient solution.
Visual concept
A fresh visual concept was developed to modernize the interface, focusing on creating a clean, intuitive, and aesthetically pleasing design that aligns with the project’s goals and user specific needs.
Repetitive Testing
The initial version of the design was created, integrating insights from research and the new visual concept. It served as a prototype for testing and gathering feedback to refine the final version of the product.
Problem 1: Accessibility
Terminal Placement Problem
TSS terminals are often located outdoors in well-lit areas, which presents visibility issues due to glare and sunlight. This required adjustments to the design, including high-contrast elements and optimized color schemes, to ensure usability in varying lighting conditions. Additionally, considering the target audience often includes users over the age of 45, the design incorporated larger interface components and clear typography to accommodate potential visual impairments and ensure ease of use for older individuals
Solution
To address the issue, we applied WCAG testing to ensure accessibility and usability in bright outdoor conditions. High-contrast elements and enlarged interface components were implemented, catering to users with visual impairments or those in older age groups, enhancing overall readability and interaction
Problem 2: Hardware
Technical Constraints
TSS terminals have significant limitations in hardware performance and touch interface capabilities. These restrictions posed challenges in ensuring smooth functionality and responsiveness.
Solution
The design was optimized to reduce resource consumption by simplifying visual elements, minimizing animations, and prioritizing essential interactions. Touch targets were enlarged, and interface responsiveness was fine-tuned to provide a seamless experience despite hardware limitations.
Problem 3: Development cost
High price for development
TSS terminals are developed by an external vendor, and the unique requirements of the project led to unexpectedly high software development costs, which were unacceptable to the stakeholders.
Solution
To address this, we established continuous communication with the developers and focused on optimizing the design processes. This collaboration resulted in an 80% reduction in development costs, making the project more cost-effective and aligned with stakeholder expectations.
Animations
In my role, I was responsible for creating animations from scratch, ensuring they were fully optimized for the project. These animations were developed in the JSON Lottie format, which significantly reduced the development load and improved performance. The use of this format helped streamline the integration process, making the animations lightweight and easy to implement while maintaining high visual quality.
Results
The outcome was an interface that performed exceptionally across all use cases, catering to users of all age groups. It ensured an intuitive and accessible experience, successfully addressing the needs of various tasks and enhancing overall satisfaction.
Personal Experience
I personally enjoy using the terminal for services, as it provides a smooth and efficient user experience.
Network Expansion
The design changes enabled the expansion of the TSS terminal network across Moldova, significantly increasing accessibility and usability for end users. These improvements also facilitated the establishment of strategic partnerships with major market players such as Linella, Orange, and various government institutions. These collaborations not only enhanced the terminal network's reach but also solidified its position as a reliable and innovative solution for a wide range of services.
